Global Rights for Women Workshop in Minnesota

Women’s Support Center’s project coordinator Hasmik Gevorgyan together with our lawyer Nona Galstyan has just come back from a workshop in Minnesota, US. They participated as a part of Armenian delegation, which also included representatives from Police, Investigative Committee and Ministry of Justice. The purpose of the workshop was to identify best practices in the implementation of domestic violence laws.

The workshop provided an extraordinary opportunity for the Armenian Delegation to receive Community Coordinated Response training tailored specifically to the needs of Armenia by the staff of Global Rights for Women and the Duluth Abuse Intervention Project, recently awarded by Vice President Biden for advances in the domestic violence response.

In addition to the session in Duluth, the workshop also included peer-to-peer meetings and a variety of observations in both Duluth and Minneapolis, Minnesota. Participants had direct contact with the agencies that lead coordination – including police, prosecutors, probation and the judiciary. We are grateful to the Global Rights for Women for making this happen!
